After having immigrated to the United States from his native Colombia at age 17, Henry Cardenas has made a huge impact in marketing through his agency, Cardenas Marketing Network.  With the help of Latino pop icon Marc Anthony, in 2012 Henry co-founded Maestro Cares, a non-profit focused on helping to create awareness of the poverty, homelessness, and violence affecting children in Latin America. Maestro Cares is using social media to update global supporters on the construction project of a new orphanage being built by the organization in the Dominican Republic.

Mex And The City is a blog and agency that promotes the positive contributions of the contemporary Mexican experience. They use social media to organize Mexican-American arts and culture events in the heart of New York City. As advocates of ethnic studies, they developed Movement Makers, a high school pilot program that focuses on Latin American literature and discusses issues such as race, identity, class, and immigration. Mex and the City is moving the conversation of race and culture forward through online content, creative outlets, and educational efforts.

In 2009, Magaly launched Swebapps, the first build-your-own-app platform. Julio Alberto is using social media to bring education straight to the Latino community.  By harnessing the power of YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, Julio Alberto gives math and physics  lessons in Spanish with online audiences who might not otherwise have access to these subjects. On YouTube, Julio has 100,000 subscribers and his lessons have 38 million views. Also, his social media presence includes 6,000 followers on Twitter and 18,000 “likes” on Facebook.

Elma Placeres Dieppa is an active blogger, marketer, and community organizer. Her work with #LATISM, a volunteer-based community that helps empower Latinos through the use of social media, has created a positive impact on the Latino community. Through #Latism this Revolucionaria has raised awareness of important issues such as human rights and education, as well as topics that are currently affecting the surrounding communities. By using social media to share information , other activists have been able to connect with one another in efforts to support these causes.

At only 20 years old, Shalida Ann Dobbins has already been running her own fashion blog for three years. Being in a wheelchair since she was three, Shalida has used blogging about fashion as a way inspire other girls, with disabilities or not, to gain confidence inside and out. Through her experiences, she has learned that the most important person to love is yourself, and in spreading that message she is helping other girls to have a good outlook on their future and self image.

Lisa Quinones-Fontanez has made it her mission to connect with inner-city familias that have children with Autism and help them by sharing her resources and experiences through her online blog and social networks.  Through her writing, this Revolucionaria is not only reaching families affected by Autism, but is also educating those who aren’t familiar with the disorder.  Recently Lisa has been given the opportunity to blog for both Parents.com and Babble.com where she is able to leverage her voice as an Autism awareness advocate in the online and social media comunidad.

As one of the most influential mujeres of our time, Eva Longoria takes being a positive role model to the next level.  Eva is the national spokesperson for PADRES Contra El Cancer, which is the only Latino program in the U.S. that focuses on addressing the needs of the entire family by helping them with educational, financial, and language resources. In addition, she has founded two philanthropic organizations: Eva’s Heroes, which helps developmentally disabled children and The Eva Longoria Foundation, which focuses on empowering Latinos to reach their full potential through education and entrepreneurship. Annae Padilla embodies the spirit of her Native American and Mexican antepasados through her perseverance and her relentless pursuit of justice. After growing up in the rough streets of South Central Los Angeles, Annae moved to Arizona where she encountered first hand the injustice of the Arizona Immigration Laws. Motivated to speak up for la gente against the oppression of these laws, this Revolucionaria founded and designs for Melanic Tees. Melanic Tees Coolection is a website that exhibits melanism and self expression as well as sells t-shirts that represent this Revolucionaria’s voice.

Highlighting and celebrating successful and proactive Latinos is a mere snapshot of how Cafecito, an online web series, seeks to engage the Latino community. This platform utilizes Blogspot, Twitter, Facebook, and Google+ to spread the word about programs and organizations that are committed to the betterment of la comunidad. Felicia ‘Fe’ Montes is a Xicana Indigenous artist and activist from Los Angeles. By co-founding the women’s art collective Mujeres de Maiz, Fe has been able to use social media to share Xicana feminist art, which helped raise awareness about women’s social and spiritual change. Fe’s Xicana activism has led her to organize efforts alongside the Zapatistas, Peace & Dignity Journeys, and La Red Xicana Indigena.

Tech enthusiast Michelle Olvera is Founder and CEO of a boutique digital media company called SupaSistaLatina Media. Through ‘SupaDaily,’ a daily email newsletter for the hip English-speaking Latina, Michelle encourages her loyal and growing audience to achieve success at work, in life and in play. She convergences social media and email marketing to assist advertisers in optimizing offers sold to one of the fastest growing segments of the U.S. market, the U.S. Hispanic Millennial Woman. Serving as an Executive Committee Member of the Latino Startup Alliance, Michelle believes in creating a community for Latinos to succeed in, while also changing the view of who Latinas are.

An award-winning journalist with a Yale Ph.D., Viviana Hurtado owns her smarts and shares it with others through her website, The Wise Latina Club. She embodies The New Americana with her authenticity, independence, and by turning her fellow Latinas onto politics by using engaging and down-to-earth content that inspires those who come across it. Using blogs, videos, facebook posts and tweets, Viviana has gained the admiration and recognition from many, including Latism 2011 and 2012 Best Political blogger, Blogs by Latinas’ Best 2011 and 2012 News blog, Forbes.com political influencers, and one of Voxxi.com’s most powerful Latinas in social media.

Edgar Mejia, known as a social-do-gooder, has developed a company that focuses on the use of technology to remotely support various chambers of commerce and business organizations.  He has educated Hispanic business owners about better business practices, innovation, and philanthropy. Through his use of social media, Edgar has also supported a number of non-profits in the fight against poverty amongst children.  In addition, he has funded E-Commerce projects that have created sustainable social impacts in Latin America and the United States.

Laura Donnelly Gonzalez and Alicia Rancon are two University of Texas grads that transformed a class project into the powerful nonprofit and online magazine, Latinitas. Since 2009, Laura and Alicia have empowered young Latinas with programs, the most contemporary Web 2.0 platforms, open source software, and social media opportunities for self-expression. As founders of the only agency/publication of its kind, they have engaged 1,000 student bloggers to MyLatinitas.com and trained 20,000 elementary, middle and high school Latinas as reporters, bloggers, vloggers, and pod-casters whose voices bring to life the New Americana.

This award-winning journalist is the founder of “Wise Latinas Linked,” a virtual networking group on Facebook and LinkedIn that unites Latinas and shares information on job openings, college scholarships, fellowships, relationship advice, and personal and professional development. Today, WLL has mobilized more than 4,000 members and is representative of women in the U.S., Spain, Mexico, England, Peru, Colombia, Honduras, Canada, Australia and Puerto Rico. Time and time again Latinos fall prey to the injusticia that exists within the systems of education, housing, voting, immigration and employment. However, LatinoJustice PRLDEF has been one group of Revolucionarios fighting since 1972 for the civil rights of Latinos. This group of lawyers uses social media to engage and inform Latinos of their rights so that they can strike back against the system. Some of the more Influential social media engagements include Twitter Town Halls meetings and a Tumblr to report stories of Latinos being stopped and accosted by the NYPD. Their efforts to educate, empower, and engage Latino communities have made them one of the most powerful Latino civil rights organizations of today.

Dr. Angélica Pérez-Litwin is a sixteen-year Clinical Psychologist and Life Coach with a driven desire to empower others, especially women and her Latino community. She is the Creator and Publisher of New Latina, a website that offers relevant content on personal growth and career development. Nearly 5,000 strong, the New Latina community engages in Twitter parties, online conversations, and spotlight articles that amplify the platform’s mission. Dr. Pérez-Litwin will soon launch the ELLA Leadership Institute, an innovative approach to career development. As the Founder and CEO of the leadership training institute, she aims to create powerful social impact and provide multicultural women the skills to rise their respective fields. 

Joaquin Guerra has run digital programs and strategies for political campaigns in the past, but in the summer of 2009 he used digital engagement to tell Walter Lara’s story and in return created a movement that allowed for his stay from deportation. Since then this model has been used by many other organizations like DREAMACTIVIST, United We DREAM and Change.org to stop the deportations of thousands of other DREAMers. This Revolucionario has not only empowered the immigrant rights movement but has also helped non-profits, especially those that serve low-income communities of color, to build their digital engagement capacity.

Dissatisfied with the school system and with a big dream to be a writer, Eileen started the blog Mommy Teaches. Sharing her experiences in the classroom and at home, this proud Brooklyn mommy shines a light on issues that affect mamis latinas with infectious positivity and candor. Her success as a bloguera has earned her a spot as a featured writer on Voxxi.com and Mamiverse.
