Laura Donnelly Gonzalez and Alicia Rancon are two University of Texas grads that transformed a class project into the powerful nonprofit and online magazine, Latinitas. Since 2009, Laura and Alicia have empowered young Latinas with programs, the most contemporary Web 2.0 platforms, open source software, and social media opportunities for self-expression. As founders of the only agency/publication of its kind, they have engaged 1,000 student bloggers to MyLatinitas.com and trained 20,000 elementary, middle and high school Latinas as reporters, bloggers, vloggers, and pod-casters whose voices bring to life the New Americana.

Time and time again Latinos fall prey to the injusticia that exists within the systems of education, housing, voting, immigration and employment. However, LatinoJustice PRLDEF has been one group of Revolucionarios fighting since 1972 for the civil rights of Latinos. This group of lawyers uses social media to engage and inform Latinos of their rights so that they can strike back against the system. Some of the more Influential social media engagements include Twitter Town Halls meetings and a Tumblr to report stories of Latinos being stopped and accosted by the NYPD. Their efforts to educate, empower, and engage Latino communities have made them one of the most powerful Latino civil rights organizations of today.

Like a true New Americana, Elizabeth originally picked up yoga to heal an injury, and wound up touching the lives of many Latinos by embracing a tradition outside of her culture and making it her own. She got in-tune with meditative practices, and soon became a yoga instructor and an Ayurvedic counselor. As one of the most influential mujeres of our time, Eva Longoria takes being a positive role model to the next level.  Eva is the national spokesperson for PADRES Contra El Cancer, which is the only Latino program in the U.S. that focuses on addressing the needs of the entire family by helping them with educational, financial, and language resources. Mex And The City is a blog and agency that promotes the positive contributions of the contemporary Mexican experience. They use social media to organize Mexican-American arts and culture events in the heart of New York City. As advocates of ethnic studies, they developed Movement Makers, a high school pilot program that focuses on Latin American literature and discusses issues such as race, identity, class, and immigration. Mex and the City is moving the conversation of race and culture forward through online content, creative outlets, and educational efforts.

Having lived in Argentina, Colombia, Brazil and having strong ties with Uruguay, Chile, Peru and Venezuela, Conz  is well aware of what is happening, where and why. Julio Salgado is a gay Mexican-born activist artist from Long Beach, California. His status as an undocumented queer activist has fueled the contents of his illustrations. As a co-founder of DreamersAdrift.com, Julio offers a discussion about undocumented youth and helps them display their stories through videos, art, music, spoken word, prose, and poetry.

Founded only fifteen months ago, Café Con Leche Republicans has already been ranked as having the number one website amongst similar organizations as well as having a large Twitter following.  This Revolucionario supports many causes such as immigration reform, pushing back against anti-immigration groups, and helping conservatives better understand issues relating to immigration and assimilation.  By being the leader amongst Hispanic-Republic organizations, they are able to promote immigration reform to other conservative groups which will ultimately help them get closer to accomplishing their goal of making America more friendly to immigrants.

El Maestro Andalón is passionate about youth being able to access free math tutoring in a simple and fast way. So, in true innovator fashion he’s turned to the digital space to make this possible. Using Youtube videos that average ten minutes in length, Maestro Andalón has helped over 34 million people in all of Iberoamérica and the United States access math education through his free video math classes. By also pursuing efforts to televise his lessons, and showcase them at a museum in his home city of Tijuana for those without internet access, this innovator shows a true commitment to making knowledge accessible at all levels.

Elma Placeres Dieppa is an active blogger, marketer, and community organizer. Her work with #LATISM, a volunteer-based community that helps empower Latinos through the use of social media, has created a positive impact on the Latino community. Dicen que heroes get remembered but legends never die. When it comes to Sixto “Sugar Man” Rodriguez, he has qualities of both. He released two albums in the 1970’s that, while unsuccessful in the US, became part of the rallying cries of the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa. His lyrics elevated him to hero status in South Africa and his legend lives on for new generations of Americanos to appreciate in the form of anti-establishment ballads aimed at challenging the norm.

Cristy Clavijo-Kish and Katherine Doble founded LosTweens.com to create a space where Latino and multi-cultural parents could connect on the challenges of raising tweens, children ages 7-12, and teaching them about their culture. After having immigrated to the United States from his native Colombia at age 17, Henry Cardenas has made a huge impact in marketing through his agency, Cardenas Marketing Network.  With the help of Latino pop icon Marc Anthony, in 2012 Henry co-founded Maestro Cares, a non-profit focused on helping to create awareness of the poverty, homelessness, and violence affecting children in Latin America. Maestro Cares is using social media to update global supporters on the construction project of a new orphanage being built by the organization in the Dominican Republic.

Stephanie Bravo is a Mexican American from San Jose, California, and founder of the StudentMentor.org, a free online student mentorship service providing resources for disadvantaged students in search of a college degree. Bravo was inspired to create this site from her mentorship experience at The Stanford University Minority Medical Alliance Medical Mentorship Program (SUMMA MMP), while at San Jose State University. Although she applied herself and got accepted into medical school, Bravo put her dream of becoming a physician on the backburner to pursue her passion for education.
