As a result she garnered the attention from the likes of Time magazine, Mashable, GigaOm, and Entrepreneur magazine to name a few. Dicen que heroes get remembered but legends never die. When it comes to Sixto “Sugar Man” Rodriguez, he has qualities of both. He released two albums in the 1970’s that, while unsuccessful in the US, became part of the rallying cries of the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa. His lyrics elevated him to hero status in South Africa and his legend lives on for new generations of Americanos to appreciate in the form of anti-establishment ballads aimed at challenging the norm.

As an online hub for Latina moms and families, Mamiverse is a site for community, news, and lifestyle. Mamiverse speaks to a specific cultural perspective of like-minded, savvy mujeres, and aims to unite this powerful and passionate group through empowering stories and voices on social media. This mission is being kept alive by having nearly four thousand Twitter followers, two thousand Pinterest followers, and over twenty-six thousand “likes” on Facebook.
Mex And The City is a blog and agency that promotes the positive contributions of the contemporary Mexican experience. They use social media to organize Mexican-American arts and culture events in the heart of New York City. As advocates of ethnic studies, they developed Movement Makers, a high school pilot program that focuses on Latin American literature and discusses issues such as race, identity, class, and immigration. The New Americanos – Puerto Rican born, Calle13 has had a career in music reaching millions with their catchy beats and powerful lyrics that are being recognized in pueblitos in Latin America as well as the Grammys. They are living in what we call dos mundos and their music is reflective of that experience.
The Mobilizers – Partnering with Unicef and other cause oriented organizations, Calle 13 has crossed over as philanthropists using their music, fans and capacity as artists to inspire and make change. Their movements have extended themselves as campaigns online and off.
The Innovators – Their music doesn’t play on Top 40 or even Spanish US stations yet they’ve won over 5 Grammys and every US and Foreign Latino knows who they are. This is due to their popularity and exposure online – their video “Latinoamerica” has had over 150k views on YouTube.
Sergio Alcocer is one of the most progressive multicultural marketers in the USA. In 1999 he helped found LatinWorks, an agency that has consistently bent the rules of the Hispanic market by creating thought provoking campaigns for some of the major advertisers in the space. Gabriel Shepherd is a tech startup entrepreneur from Las Vegas who is passionate about the economic diversification of his community, and the sustainability and growth of the tech industry within the state of Nevada. He is also an organizer of #VegasTech—a tight-knit group of thinkers, doers and makers committed to making Las Vegas the #1 hot spot for tech entrepreneurship. Ramiro disrupts the peace one painting at a time. Most of his cardboard paintings of immigrant workers are displayed in front of Hollywood mansions, Rodeo Drive, Capitol Hill, and shared online through his blog Happy Hills. His artistic political statements are getting some serious attention in art and political circles, which in turn promote immigration reform.

As a passionately curious, socially-oriented entrepreneur, Cynthia creates positive, environmental, and social change. She is the Founder and CEO of Smplct Lab, a research and development lab that creates cross-cultural collaboration between artists, technologists, scholars, and citizens worldwide. Cynthia is also the Co-Founder and Executive Director of GIRLS WHO ROCK, an annual concert in NYC connecting entertainment, technology, and design communities to advocate for girls and education. Oscar Morales Guevara organized the No Mas FARC protests that rallied 12 million people in 200 cities across the world, considered as the largest antiterrorism demonstrations in history. As founder of the One Million Voices Foundation, Morales Guevara has been a speaker in Facebook Headquarters, Advertising Week 2008, and Google Zeitgeist 2009. His movement inspired the “Alliance of Youth Movements”, comprising movements from around the world using social media to promote causes against terrorism, violence, and extremism. Morales is also counselor of “One Young World”, an initiative supported by Kofi Annan and Desmond Tutu. More recently, he was appointed by President George W. Lisa Quinones-Fontanez has made it her mission to connect with inner-city familias that have children with Autism and help them by sharing her resources and experiences through her online blog and social networks. Through her writing, this Revolucionaria is not only reaching families affected by Autism, but is also educating those who aren’t familiar with the disorder. Stephanie Bravo is a Mexican American from San Jose, California, and founder of the StudentMentor.org, a free online student mentorship service providing resources for disadvantaged students in search of a college degree. Bravo was inspired to create this site from her mentorship experience at The Stanford University Minority Medical Alliance Medical Mentorship Program (SUMMA MMP), while at San Jose State University. After having immigrated to the United States from his native Colombia at age 17, Henry Cardenas has made a huge impact in marketing through his agency, Cardenas Marketing Network. With the help of Latino pop icon Marc Anthony, in 2012 Henry co-founded Maestro Cares, a non-profit focused on helping to create awareness of the poverty, homelessness, and violence affecting children in Latin America. Maestro Cares is using social media to update global supporters on the construction project of a new orphanage being built by the organization in the Dominican Republic.

Portraits for Peace is a personal project of photographer Diego Huerta. With the objective to counteract the negative impact of more than 31,000 deaths in the last four years in Mexico, Diego began a project of a lifetime on February 14, 2011. In order to accomplish his objective, Diego traveled the 32 states in Mexico and was able to photograph 31,000 people with a blue paper dove in their hands named “La Huasteca”. Hopefully, by doing this, he would achieve one of his goals; to change people minds and turn their negative thoughts into something positive. In addition, the message of “Peace Starts by Believing” to every single person he met.
