With 2012 in the rearview, the technology industry is kicking up dust in preparation for SXSWi 2013, the annual festival highlighting the next-big-thing in interactive technology. The official Latino event at SXSW interactive, The Social Revolucion <http://www.thesocialrevolucion.com/>, is roaring back to life for a second time to celebrate online Latinos influencing cultural shifts and trends. On March 12, 2013 at Ballet Austin, The Social Revolucion again will host the Latino Lounge, Revolucionario Awards, and Party showcasing Monterrey’s “soft porn rock band” A Band of Bitches.
With so many Latino visionaries around the globe using hashtags, pixels, and live updates to spread ideas, Austin-based Cultural Strategies worked to create an interactive movement to celebrate these individuals. SXSW Interactive is a natural choice for the event because of the emphasis on digital media and that it provided the perfect opportunity to capitalize on the global influx of influential Latino badge holders.
The Social Revolucion invites the online community to visit thesocialrevolucion.com to nominate Latinos using social media as a platform to create change and inspire audiences into action. A highly influential group industry leaders has been recruited to serve as judges for the Revolucionario Awards in three categories: The Innovator, The Mobilizer, and The New Americano. Nominees will be recognized at the Latino Lounge portion of the event, and the Revolucionario Awards ceremony will celebrate two winners from each of the three categories. One nominee that embodies all three categories will be chosen as the Lider of the Social Revolucion. There were over 140 nominees in 2012, and a larger group is expected this year.
